How to submit a rule change:
It has been brought to our attention that there are those in the International J/22 Class that wish to submit a rule change (whether a new one or a modification to an existing one). Listed below are the steps necessary to have a rules submittal put through the hoops for approval.
- Explicitly write down the rule proposal or change. Listing all of the pros and cons and a brief description of why you think your proposal should be taken into consideration. This should be written out in a business letter format.
- The proposal should include the names and hull numbers of 10 other International J/22 Class members.
- In addition to the 10 International J/22 Class members, the district governor needs to sign off on it.
- The technical committee chair of your country (in the United States, Lars Hansen) drafts a proposal to the ITCC.
- Submittal of the proposal to the chairman of International Technical Committee.
- The International J/22 executive committee will review and discuss whether the proposal is a legitimate change and worthy of the next step.
- If the proposal is found to have substance and a worthy cause, the International Committee will submit the proposal to the ISAF for approval. This is typically done in the even-numbered years.
